This book is full of poems. Jacqueline is born on February 18, 1963, in the city of Columbus, Ohio, and named after her father, Jack. While Jackie’s first year is spent in the North, several trips are made to the South for Mary Ann (her mother) to visit her parents, Grandpa Gunnar and Grandma Georgiana, who live in the Nicholtown area of Greenville, South Carolina. The region is segregated and Jackie doesn't understand why she always goes. Her parents' very different feelings about the South causes arguments between them. Eventually, Jack and Mary Ann split up, and Mary Ann and her three children, Hope, Odella, and Jackie, move south to live with Grandpa Gunnar and Grandma Georgiana. Jackie comes to love Greenville. While racism and segregation exist there, the place is still home to her and her grandparents. They believe in peaceful marches for civil rights. They know that God will bless them for doing the right thing. Despite the widespread animosity, there are white people in Greenville who are respectful and treat Jackie and her family like actual human beings, rather than dirt. One such woman is the owner of the local laundromat store, who has known Grandma Georgiana for years. Mary Ann, however, wants to move back North. So, she travels to New York City to get settled. Jackie and her siblings stay on with their grandparents, relishing the time they have with them until Mary Ann comes to retrieve her children, with a brand new baby boy named Roman in tow. They move in with Mary Ann's sister Caroline Irby (Aunt Kay), but Aunt Kay dies and the family of five is left alone. In New York, Jackie becomes best friends with a girl from Puerto Rico named Maria. She also decides that she wants to become a writer after encouragement from her teacher. Each summer, Jackie and her siblings return to South Carolina to visit their grandparents. However, each time they find Grandpa Gunnar, a heavy smoker, sicker and sicker. Mary Ann's brother gets sent to prison after getting in trouble with the police, during which time he converts to Islam. About the same time, Jackie and Maria start to love Angela Davis of the Black Panther movement. They imitate Angela, though they have no real idea about the revolution in which she is involved. Not long after, Grandpa Gunnar dies of cancer, and Grandma Georgiana moves up to New York to be with Mary Ann and the grandchildren.

this book was amazing! i really recommend because i really loved the plot twists and the whole secrecy i also recommend reading the other books in the series

I got most of the magic tree house books. I want to read this because I am in soccer and soccer is my favorite sport. I can't wait till it comes out. I can't wait till the next one comes out what will the title be. It is a big mystery.

Silver War on Sunday by Marry Pope Osborne. It tells about a boy and a girl named Jake and Annie. Who went on a magic tree house bake to the silver War. There they saw tents they went down by the tents and meet a nurse named Clara Barton. She asked Annie and Jake to help the wounded solders. Jake and Annie were brave an saved many solders life.

Audra knows her parents are up to something. So, when her parents are debating something important about telling Audra something, she wishes to know what. The Russian Cossack have banned Lithuanian books, religion, culture, and the language. This makes a ton of people who live in Lithuania annoyed. You would get into big trouble if you were caught speaking Lithuanian or practicing the religion. Audra is even more confused when an angry crowd of Russian Cossack soldiers appear at their door. Her dad motions for Audra and Audra’s mother to flee while he stalls them. Soon Audra’s mother and father can’t go on. In a hurry, they hand her an important package, that Audra has no idea what's inside, and tell her to run. This means abandoning her parents to a terrible, horrible, tragic fate. Meaning the Russian soldiers will do what they like with them. That never means something good. Audra runs for it though, figuring if she doesn’t get caught too, she can figure out a way to save her parents. She joins a secret group of book smugglers and learns how books are more that just words. But will she give it up to save her parents?

This book talks about Christine and the moon. Moon and her mom were poor so there was a lady who said that the moon can get food . Then Christine's mom said that they can move next door.Ten moon does tell Christine her deepest secrets. moon also wishes that she can be bold because her favorite pop song has her hair bold then moon show Christine how the song goes.Then moon needed to get brain surgery and Christine thought that was her fault.

When you hear the name Albert Einstein, you think of the words smart of intelligent, but at Albert Einstein Elementary school that's not the case. When Ravi was back home in India, he was the best student, he was athletic, had a best friend, was very good in math, and pretty much aced school. At his new school, Albert Einstein Elementary School everything is the opposite of what he thought! He can't seem to impress his teacher with his smarts, he has zero friends, the class bully, Dillion, calls him Curryhead, and everything here at this new school is different than in his old school back in India. Joe has lived in America since forever! He goes to Albert Einstein Elementary School and hates every subject except for lunch. He also hates Dillion for always bullying him. Not to mention he hates the Dillion wannabees and the girls in his class, because they are Dillion fans. But when Ravi comes along maybe now is his chance to finally have a friend and maybe school won't be so bad after all! I really enjoyed 'Save Me A Seat', by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan. "White Giraffe by Lauren St. John tells about 11 year old Martine and a white giraffe." One night Martine was sleeping but woke up to a hot and tingling sensation just to realize her house was on fire. After, her parents died due to the fire she had to move all the way from England to Africa. She had to go live with her grandmother that she had never heard about.. One night she SWORE she saw something that sort of looked like a giraffe out her window. But it was white.. She decided to go outside and look for it. But she found nothing. Another night she decided to look for it again. There it was, her looking up at it and it looking down at her. They made a connection. A strong connection. The giraffe saved, but she decided not to tell her grandmother. She was scared she was get mad at her for going outside at night, or worse, she was scared that she would do something bad to the giraffe, so she decided to not tell ANYONE. Martine's grandmother and parents knew she always had a connection with animals.

Who was Martin Luther King jr? You may ask. Here I'll tell you. He was a black man who wanted ALL people to have FAIR rights. But he was special he fought peacefully! Like in Boycotts and in Speeches he still didn't get what he wanted until he died. Sad right? Later on in his life he won the Noble Peace Prize for fighting peacefully! Martin Luther King Jr is a hero. Martin's famous speech ( You most likely Know the Name!) I Have a Dream. This was one of my favorite books! The Vanderbeekers kids; the twins, Isa and Jessie both are 13 years old, Oliver, 10 years old, Hyacinth, 8 years old, and lastly but not at least, Laney who is 6 years old. They lived in the brownstone apartment for whole of their lives, and it's practically another member of the Vanderbeekers family. They have pets, Franz, a dog, George Washington, a cat, and Prangini, a bunny. All were well until their landlord, Mr. Beiderman refused to renew their lease after 6 years of living there for Vanderbeekers. Papa Vanderbeeker as revealed lived in Harlem for all of his childhood, which was actually hoping to have his children to live for whole of their childhood in the Harlem, too. Ever since when the news broke out that Mr. Beiderman refuses to renew their lease, the Vanderbeekers doing as much as they could to save their home. You'll meet people like, Mr. Van Hooten, Isa's violin teacher, Auntie Harrigan and Uncle Arthur, Miss Josie, Mr. Jeet, Angie, the Castlemans, Benny and his parents (Benny is 8th grader and Isa is in 7th grade), etc. In the ending, Benny finally asked Isa out for the dance and the Vanderbeekers also got invited into the Mr. Beiderman's apartment after those long years and the Vanderbeekers barely even know him until they found the truth in the newspapers and people. - Happy Reading!
