With over one million copies sold, this series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager.

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won’t they? One thing’s for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.

I felt like I could place me and my sisters in the places of the different characters. My favorite character was Skye because she is really funny and a lot like me. She does have a bad temper but knows how to have fun. My favorite part of the book was the ending. It made me want to read the second book in the series right away. This was a hard book to put down.

I love The Penderwicks series! I loved reading about the cool adventures the siblings go on together. Rosalind is my favorite character because she is very caring.

The Penderwicks was a very interesting book. It is not the type of material I usually read, but I still loved it. Usually I read books about adventure, mystery, magic, etc. This story was more classical, and in earlier times. The Penderwicks was about a family of four girls who go on vacation for three weeks and meet a boy, who needs help. He is about to be sent off to military school, and his mother is being married to a horrid man. Nothing is going his way, and the Penderwicks decide to help. There isn't really breath-taking scenes, and it is not an action-packed book. However I recommend this book to everyone. Especially those who love classics such as Little Women and the Secret Garden.

I loved this book. It is all about the Penderwicks and their time at the arundel and their time with jeffrey and cagney with his rabbits.

This book is great because it is realistic and is not over the top.

It is and has always been my favorite book of all time. The characters are so unique and fun-filled. Just reading this book brightens my day. This and each of the following Penderwick books include a pack of adventures with the Penderwick girls: Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty. (My favorite character is Skye)

I enjoyed The Penderwicks written by Jeanne Birdsall. I loved all of the lovely characters in the book such as Rosalind, the oldest, and Skye who is usually grumpy, but still lovable. And who could forget sweet Jane who is very intrigued with books and writing. Last but least there is little Batty the youngest. This book is about how the sisters, that I mentioned above, go on a vacation and meet an interesting boy named Jeffrey and his rude mother Mrs.Tiffon. I recommend this book for ages 8-12. I hope you enjoy this book.
