A hilarious, action-packed New York Times bestselling series launches with a story-within-a-story, from the author of the Half Upon a Time trilogy.

Life is boring when you live in the real world, instead of starring in your own book series. Owen knows that better than anyone, what with the real world’s homework and chores.

But everything changes the day Owen sees the impossible happen—his classmate Bethany climb out of a book in the library. It turns out Bethany’s half-fictional and has been searching every book she can find for her missing father, a fictional character.

Bethany can’t let anyone else learn her secret, so Owen makes her a deal: All she has to do is take him into a book in Owen’s favorite Kiel Gnomenfoot series, and he’ll never say a word. Besides, visiting the book might help Bethany find her father…

…Or it might just destroy the Kiel Gnomenfoot series, reveal Bethany’s secret to the entire world, and force Owen to live out Kiel Gnomenfoot’s final (very final) adventure.

This was an amazing book that had absolutely no part that you could consider "boring". The first part completely sucked me into a world of action and suspense, like how Bethany literally gets sucked into a book. It also makes me question reality- am i actually inside a book? It also had a bunch of mind tingling paradoxes, too. One word: amazing! Can't wait for the next book! (P.S. At the end, the book says that James Riley doesn't actually exist... is that just part of the book? I'm seriously confused.)

Oh my gosh!!! Your review is AMAZING!!!! It makes me want to read it too! :D!!!!! I think when it says James Riley doesn't exist... maybe he is implying that "James Riley" is a pen name... and he has a different name... so since it is a pen name... James Riley does not exist in the real world.... that's my theory :p.... what do you think?????

Hmm... Maybe you're right. And, thanks for replying!

I read the Half Upon a Time series! They were awesome! I didn't know he wrote any other books - I can't wait to read this one because seriously, James Riley is pretty amazing at writing fantasy novels. But at the end of Half Upon a Time where James Riley talks about himself, he says, "This is James's first novel under his name, despite having ghostwritten for three presidents, two members of royalty, and one very imaginary bird. He apologizes for any inconvenience." There's also a picture of him in the back, so I think he does exist. I think it's part of the book, but can you quote what he said exactly about him NOT being James Riley?
