Do you like stories that happen in middle school? The book Middle School the Worst Years of My Life by James Patterson takes place in a present day middle school. I like how the protagonist, Rafe, likes to break the rules and get into mischief. For example, he sets off the school fire alarm, causing chaos and mayhem. The vice-principal, Mrs. Strickler, is the antagonist. She puts Rafe in detention every time he breaks another rule from her book of rules. At home, Rafe faces Bear, his mother’s boyfriend. Bear is a lazy grump who is always laying around on the couch. One night Bear accidently hurts Rafe’s mother, sending her to the hospital. Rafe continues to get in trouble at school until his mother comes home and Bear is gone. Because of the mature content this book is recommended for ages 11-14.
