Kids Books - Historical

best book ever! So sad though:(

I think it is a really well written book. It tells a story of a girl who was caught stealing from her master's house and sentenced to be hanged.During the trial she goes outside to get a drink but is kidnapped. She finds herself at a school for girls. A few years pass being at the school when Mary (that is the name of the girl) goes to the headmaster to speak to her. She finds out about a secret agency that is concealed in the school. She agrees to join the agency and is appointed her fist mission. Mary must find out the truth about a man who they think is smuggling cargo on his ships. The author Y. S. Lee is very good at writing her stories so you want to keep reading. It shows you how girls can be clever.

Being a person that really enjoys books about war, I really enjoyed reading this one. I loved how the author was able to describe the feelings of the characters, and I was almost always able to picture the scenes in my mind. Throughout the book I had learned a few more things about war and how dogs in war work, and many of the systems. I never knew how big a role the dogs played in war since they had to carry important messages from one company to another, and sometimes have to find missing groups. During certain parts I teared up slightly, that was how good this book is.

My reaction to this novel is you should always treat your mom with respect even though in this story Rosco and his sister were yelled at a lot it doesn’t matter. I also learned that these kids wanted to have their world safe. At the end of the day I still don't think that I would have went into the union army I think that's too much.

The book is about the Jim crow laws when we black people had to give up our seats for a white person to sit down. Also This teenager named Emmett till was kidnap ed and 3 days later they saw his body floating in the river he was only 13. I gave this book a 4 rating because it is about our history back in the day on how we were treated. Also it reminds me of Rosa parks when she chose not to stand up so a white person can sit down.
