The Thickety: A Path Begins is a spellbinding tale about a girl, the Thickety, and the power of magic. Fans of Neil Gaiman will love this thrilling new world.

When Kara Westfall was five years old, her mother was convicted of the worst of all crimes: witchcraft. Years later, Kara and her little brother, Taff, are still shunned by the people of their village, who believe that nothing is more evil than magic…except, perhaps, the mysterious forest that covers nearly the entire island. It has many names, this place. Sometimes it is called the Dark Wood, or Sordyr's Realm. But mostly it's called the Thickety.

The villagers live in fear of the Thickety and the terrible creatures that live there. But when an unusual bird lures Kara into the forbidden forest, she discovers a strange book with unspeakable powers. A book that might have belonged to her mother.

And that is just the beginning of the story.

I thought the Thickety was good book. It is good for people that like Fantasy books. It is about a girl who looses her mother and has everything on the weight of her! Overall this book is so good! I love it!

This is one of my favorite books, and considering how much I read, it"s pretty amazing if you can make it on that list. This is a well told tale that leaves you chill to the bone. Thickety is a great book about a girl whose mother has died from being accused of witchcraft. But, it all starts when HER powers kick in. After years of constant hate and teasing, Kara finds a book where she can escape. But, this book is more powerful than she thought, and some people may do anything to get ahold of it.....

WARNING: Do not read The Thickety unless you are well prepared for a horrifying, spine-chilling, blood-curdling tale, leaving you dumbfounded with every flick of a page. Kara Westfall grew up in De'Noran, the only village in the world recognizing the truth of magic: it existed, it still exists, and it needs to be destroyed. Anyone suspected to have dealt with witchcraft is immediately executed, including Kara's mother. Seven years later, twelve-year-old Kara and her little brother, Taff, have to cope with their father's self-neglect, which is nothing compared to the shunning of their entire village. When Kara is lured into the Thickety, the forbidden forest where no one is likely to return from, she finds an antique book that may have been her mother's. This turns her into something she's always feared of becoming: a witch.

THis a great,but freaky/creepy book, I still think this book ROCKS!!!!! :D :D

kind of like what I said

This book was way better than I first expected it to be. I was immediately wondering what was going on when the book started off with the main character Kara Westfall, at the time age 5, was forced to watch her mother’s execution because apparently her mother was a witch. After that every one in the town makes Kara, her brother Taff and her father’s lives miserable because they think that Kara is a witch as well. Later a 12 year old Kara is led into the Thickety, which is a magical forest that everyone is forbidden to go into, by a bird with one eye that changes colors in the middle of its chest. The Thickety reminds me a lot of the Forbidden forest in Harry Potter because in both books there are dangerous creatures in the forest, and no one is allowed to go in. In the town that the story takes place, it is practically a religion that anything magical, anyone that has or had anything to do with magic, or anything related to magic will and should be gotten rid off. Kara gets hold of a magical book that grants the wielder powers. The only problem is that the more you use it the more the book takes control of you. Its one of those books where you get extremely irritated and annoyed when the main character just cant kill the bad guy already! The main character just keeps showing the bad guy mercy thinking they will “change” and the bad guy just keeps being evil and does some giant thing that causes a giant twist at the end. Other than that this was a pretty good book.

This book was amazing! Kara's mother was accused of witchcraft 7 years ago, when Kara was only 5. Even Kara's Father called her mother guilty. Ever since Kara, and her 7 year old brother Taff, have been treated terribly. Kara has to do all the work around the farm since her mother died because her father has been filled with sorrow and guilt. He spends all day writing in a journal. (and later you'll find out why) But, one day Kara discovers a grimoire and realizes the people in the town are right. She is a witch. Now she can finally get revenge for all the mean things they've done! Or can she? Should she? For an almost 500 page book I thought it moved fairly quickly with a great plot and awesome twists. I had trouble putting it down! The cliffhanger at the end makes me long for a sequel! I would recommend The Thickety to fans of fantasy, magic or great books!

This book was a little slow for my taste, but good enough to look forward to reading it. Kara and Taff are shunned because their of mother was accused of witchcraft. When Kara lets her curiosity get the best of her and wanders into the forbidden forest, she finds a mysterious book. What else would it be, but a book of magic spells. Could this book have possibly belonged to her mother? What else could Kara find if she looked hard enough? Read this book if you want to find a world of mystery, witches, magic, and more.
