The Scourge by Jennifer A. Nielsen is a phenomenal book! I started the first page and I could not put it down. The story is about a girl named Ani who is captured by the governor’s wardens. These wardens bring her to be tested for the Scourge. Does she test positive or does she test negative? The adventures unfold and keep you guessing. You have to read the story to find out more. My favorite character was Weevil who is Ani’s best friend. I really like the ending, it was a fun twist. WARNING 3rd graders and up should read this book because it might give younger children nightmares. Everyone else should read this book because it is so good. This book also has a lot of cliff hangers which keep you on your feet the whole time. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Naji and the Mystery of the Dig was a very good book. I learned a lot about Persian culture, families and food which is really cool. At the end of the story, in the back of the book there are questions that I thought were interesting. My favorite was, would you go in the hole? The story is about a young eight year old girl Naji and her family. One morning she hears digging in her yard and later learns that they need a new septic well for their toilet. The mystery of the dig and her life unfolds throughout the story. There are many strange things that happen that Naji learns valuable lessons from. If you want to know how strange you should read the story. I would recommend Naji and The Mystery of the Dig to anyone who likes a good quick read, wants to learn about life for children in the middle east and enjoys a great ending.

Patrick Griffin’s Last Breakfast on Earth, by Ned Rust is an exciting and adventurous story, although it is also a little strange. I personally thought it was too unrealistic and a bit hard to follow. If I set the book down for awhile it was really hard for me to pick up the book again and start reading. The story is about a boy named Patrick Griffin. He is a normal boy until he is sent to a strange and unreal world named Ith. On Ith they have futuristic gadgets like really fancy smart phones and showers that don’t get you wet. On Ith they also write like we write in the dictionary. Patrick is brave while he is on Ith but his journey is very weird. When he returns to Earth there are a lot of crazy monsters that have been sent from Ith. The end leaves you hanging. If you would like to know more about these monsters, gadgets and Patrick Griffin read the story. I would recommend this book to any 3rd-5th grader that likes science fiction. If you read the book I hope you enjoy it!
