Of Mice and Men: Summary Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work on a ranch during the Great Depression in the early 30’s? Then, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck would be a good book for you. This book takes place in the Salinas Valley in California. The protagonists (or two main characters), are Lennie and George. They are two guys who wander around work on a ranch, then another, and another. This is what was called jumpers. Their dream is to own a farm for themselves. Sometimes the world isn't so nice though. One conflict is that Lennie is a special man, that has trouble remembering stuff, this is a problem that they face throughout the whole book. Another conflict is that Lennie is very strong, and not good with small animals. The turning point is when they find a farm that pays good money. They think by working there for a month, they can save up enough to get their land. Although things get heated between Lennie and the antagonist; Curley. This book is very fast paced and has a few swears, but overall, the message is that even the best intentions don’t always end well. Of Mice and Men is my favorite book and hope it will be yours too.About 9 years agoryacro added a book review.

Can you imagine your life changing in the blink of an eye? One second, one split second and it's all gone. Mia was just a normal teenage girl that morning, she had her mother, her father, and her brother Teddy. Almost all of that was taken from Mia that snow day when the truck hit her car. Have you ever just been somewhere at the wrong time? In the book If I stay by Gayle Forman, 17 year old Mia was. And it changed her life forever. Most of the book takes place in the hospital, on what was going to be an awesome snow day. The antagonist is The coma that Mia is in, and the protagonist is Mia, because she is always changing and well developed throughout the story. One major conflict in this book is the fact that Mia can see everything that's happening while she's laying on her hospital bed. She sees her best friend, boyfriend, and family. But no one can see her, feel her, or hear her. Another conflict in the book is that mia has to make one of the biggest decision she will ever make. Would you want to wake up an orphan, or die and leave behind so many people who love you? There is always that one person in your life that has an impact on the decisions you make. For Mia, that person was her grandfather. The soothing words he said to her, for a second made her feel like she had something to live for. “It's okay if you want to stop fighting.” This book can make you cry, and it's definitely a must read!About 9 years agoimmlibb added a book review.
If you like stories of survival against all odds, where a group of people must fight nature herself in an epic contest of wills, then there is, in fact, a book for you. The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss was published in 1812, but the age does not make it boring; it does quite the contrary. When the Robinsons fall victim to a shipwreck, they must fight in an epic battle of nature versus man for mere survival. Follow the story of this eighteenth century family as they salvage the wreck, build the magnificent dwelling of Felsenheim, discover, and thrive on the desolate island that is their verdant prison. One of the major conflicts is definitely the first rainy season they encounter, full of fierce hurricanes and storms. The other would be their constant battle against massive snakes, lions, and hyenas. The turning point in the book is when the family finally gets to the island from the wreck. The family faces a persisting threat of death on their remote tropical island, the location of which is not specified. The Swiss Family Robinson is exciting, and breathtaking in the description. What I like about the book is how consistent the author stays with the region they are in, (native plants, wildlife, trees, etc.,) and how easy it is to picture the island.About 9 years ago
