Dork Diaries 13: Tales from a Not-So-Happy Birthday

By Rachel Renée Russell

Nikki is planning a giant party with Chloe and Zoey. They plan a giant Luau themed Birthday party with over one hundred of Nikki's friends including Chloe and Zoey and her crush Brandon. She does eventually invite Mackenzie Hollister to her party. They need at least 250$ to rent the pool and at least 200$ to get their luau themed decorations, but Nikki has only 8.73$ and that is not close enough to their budget. She shows the plans to her mother hoping that her mother would pay for her birthday party, but Mrs. Maxwell is planning something else. Mrs. Maxwell wants to cut the budget to 100$ and even worse wants to have belly dancers to do the dancing for the party and have their party in the backyard. She starts to panic and she gives the invitations to Chloe to keep and decided that the party was canceled. The invitations get accidentally mailed out and it is an adventure to find them. Then one day when Nikki still was really sad about the invitations being lost, she has to take care of her little sister Brianna. She is watching TV when she was taking care of Brianna. Brianna goes to the bark and sells her delicious bark bites and gets a lot of money. She eventually runs out of Bark Bites and Nikki announces that the business is closed permanently, but then Brianna screams fill out these order forms or check out my website which will be coming soon. Brianna makes a deal to Nikki and said that if Nikki helps with the website than she would have half the money the earned. When Nikki added up the money it was 970$. This means that if they split it in half they would get more than 400$ each. Nikki helped with the bark bites and got the 400$. She Chloe and Zoey get all the supplies and they have a great party!

If you are looking for I slightly funny graphic novel dealing with the troubles of a middle school this is the book for you. Astrid is a 12 year old girl who has always done everything with her best friend Nicole. But one day her mom takes her along with Nicole to a Roller Derby meet. Astrid absolutly loves it while on the other hand Nicole just thinks it's a game where people just push each other around on skates. Astrid decides later she would like to be apart of the Roller Derby camp taking place this summer and would like Nicole to join as well but Nicloe had all ready had plans to be taking part in dance camp and wants nothing to do with Roller Derby. Sisters

Sisters

By Raina Telgemeier

I love this book out of all I think that this book is my 2nd favorite book. I love that there are flashbacks, I think it's really cool that it tells you the past that connects to the future. I also love that it shows that sisters never get along all the time. It also shows that even if sisters usually disagree they can always come to an understanding sooner or later. I think that this a great book and I love all her books. I love the art style. In conclusion I give this book a 5 stars.

Drama

Drama

By Raina Telgemeier

Have you ever devised the perfect plan to achieve your dreams but found that constant interference from others was holding you back? In Raina Telgemeier’s Drama, the protagonist, an outgoing, theater-loving middle schooler named Callie, is forced to deal with school drama both onstage and offstage. The setting for most of this story is Eucalyptus Middle School, where Callie works as the set designer for her school’s theater production of Moon over Mississippi. She has a lot of ambitious ideas as to how the cast and crew can create the perfect production, however, she encounters numerous difficulties. For one, the limits relating to budget, materials, and time are causing her some trouble, and to top it all off, her fellow stage crew and actors aren’t getting along very well, and Callie ends up caught in the very middle of it. She has to persevere through it all and try her hardest to make the production the best it can be. A memory moment Callie has in the story is a memory of the first theater production she ever saw and how much it inspired her. She recalled wanting to adopt the roles of characters in productions, but eventually she realized that it wasn’t her strong suit. That didn’t stop her from continuing to learn about the various aspects of theater, and she ended up joining the Eucalyptus Middle School Stage Crew during her 6th grade year. This was how she first got involved in theater and how she would become the set designer for Moon over Mississippi. Anyone who likes a good graphic novel, is interested in theater, or enjoys an amusing story involving some classic school drama might like this book.
