The true story of an all-American girl and a boy from Zimbabwe and the letter that changed both of their lives forever.

It started as an assignment. Everyone in Caitlin's class wrote to an unknown student somewhere in a distant place.

Martin was lucky to even receive a pen-pal letter. There were only ten letters, and fifty kids in his class. But he was the top student, so he got the first one.

That letter was the beginning of a correspondence that spanned six years and changed two lives.

In this compelling dual memoir, Caitlin and Martin recount how they became best friends --and better people--through their long-distance exchange. Their story will inspire you to look beyond your own life and wonder about the world at large and your place in it.

Caitlin and Martin's story is very touching, and to think that others have to deal with this makes my heart hurt. It is one of my favorite books and I give it 5 stars!

this is an awesome book! Caitlin has to write a letter in class to a far away student in Zimbabwe named Martin. their letters last for 6 years! read the book find out what the letters are about!

After reading this book about an American girl named Caitlin and a Zimbabwe boy named Martin, I can conclude that this story will teach you how relationships can inspire you to wonder about your life and the world in general. Caitlin and Martin became pen-pals only because of school. Those letters developed a lasting relationship that changed both of their lives forever. This book shows how they became best friends and better people- only through writing.

This book was unlike any I'd ever read before. I was able to see the contrast between Caitlin's life, which is what most of our lives are like, and Martin's live, which some of us can't even imagine. It was also amazing to see how what we see as almost nothing can change someone's life. This book made me want a pen pal from another country!

I've just read this book, and it was so touching. It was so cool how 2 people, living on completely different continents, managed to become friends. If you like books that are touching and are made with thought, then this is for you!

I loved this book. I liked it because it was easy to read and very interesting. I taught me things I never heard of about Zimbabwe and America. I learned that in Zimbabwe you don't have to go to school. And also that in Zimbabwe people speak English and Shona. And I learned that September 11 2001, people crashed in a field in Pensalvania and hit a third of the pentagon.

This was a very sweet book about two friends and how they maintain a friendship. It is a very long book but is worth the wait for the ending.

This book is loved by all!! It is portraying a group of kids who wanhave to know that they are loved and not forgotten. Enjoy
