"Wolf Hollow" takes place during World War II. Dozens of young men are asked to fight against the enemy...and some don't return. People are worried about German bombers destroying their cities. But not all of the exciting stories take place on the battlefield. In the American Town of Wolf Hollow, Annabeth, a girl living on a farm, faces another enemy: a bully named Betty. You might not think a bully would be much of a problem, but you're wrong. At first, Betty's bullying is like any bully's. She just hits people and demands money. Soon though, it becomes worse. First, she throws a rock at Annabeth's classmate Ruth, hitting her eye and blinding her. Then, she hangs a wire to hurt Annabeth's brother. All this Betty blames on Toby, a World War I veteran whom many mistakenly dub as "confused." But Annabeth knows that Betty is the real villain, and she's determined to prove that she is correct. How will Annabeth Clear Toby's name?

“[A] powerful debut . . . beautifully written.” —The Wall Street Journal
“Wrenching and true. . . . comparisons to Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird will abound. But Wolk gives us her own story—one full of grace and stark, brutal beauty.” —The New York Times Book Review
“When reviewers draw a parallel between Mockingbird and Lauren Wolk's Wolf Hollow, they are being neither hyperbolic, nor lazy. They are merely doing justice to Wolk's beautiful story.” — NPR, Best Books of 2016
Growing up in the shadows cast by two world wars, Annabelle has lived a mostly quiet, steady life in her small Pennsylvania town. Until the day new student Betty Glengarry walks into her class. Betty quickly reveals herself to be cruel and manipulative, and while her bullying seems isolated at first, things quickly escalate, and reclusive World War I veteran Toby becomes a target of her attacks. While others have always seen Toby’s strangeness, Annabelle knows only kindness. She will soon need to find the courage to stand as a lone voice of justice as tensions mount.
Brilliantly crafted, Wolf Hollow is a haunting tale of America at a crossroads and a time when one girl’s resilience, strength, and compassion help to illuminate the darkest corners of our history.
“The honesty of Wolf Hollow will just about shred your heart, but Annabelle’s courage and compassion will restore it to you, fuller than before. This book matters.” —Sara Pennypacker, New York Times bestselling author of Pax
“An evocative setting, memorable characters, a searing story: Wolf Hollow has stayed with me long after I closed the book. It has the feel of an instant classic." —Linda Sue Park, Newbery Medalist and New York Times bestselling author

She is just a normal girl, in a normal town. The only thing not normal is Toby, who Annabelle is very suspicious about. He loves to take pictures with the camera that Annabelles family gave him. Then, one day a new girl named Betty comes and seems nice by adults, but not that much by kids her age, or younger. Betty insists that Annabelle gives her something. So, the next day Annabelle gave her a penny. Which she though It was something from her house. But It was not enough for Betty. Betty beat Annabelle up, and then one day her brother head got cut deeply because od barbwire that was hung from tree to tree in the path way. Annabelle and Toby saw Annabelle beat up an innocent bird, which she said she would give to Annabelles brothers. One day, mysteriously, Annabelles friend got a rock hit into her eye. She then moved away. Everybody thought it was Toby, but Annabelle really thought it was Betty. One day, Betty goes missing and the ton blames it on Toby. Later on, she dies of infection. For some reason Annabelle feels bad, and tries to ind the good in her. This book is amazingly written and is a must read.

Toby, who is a weird man who walks around and is very suspicious to Annabelle and the town. Then one day, a new girl moves into the town, and Annabelle is very suspicious about her. Annabelle got beaten up by her, and her other got cut badly in the forehead one day while running down the street. Annabelle and Toby saw her tricking Annabelles brother by saying she will take care and maybe give the bird to them. After Annabelles brothers left, the bird got beat up. Then, "The new girl" went missing.....
Annabelle lived a quiet life in her small Pennsylvania town. That is, until the day the new student Betty Glengarry arrives. Betty soon reveals that she is cruel and manipulative. She picks Toby, who is a World War I veteran, as the target of her attacks. While many people only see Toby as strange, Annabelle sees kindness in him. Annabelle needs to find the courage to stand alone to justify as tensions arise.
Really cool
This book is about a girl named Isabelle and how one person can completely turn your world upside down. The year Isabelle turned 12 was the year Betty moved into Wolf Hollow. Betty decides immediately to pick on Isabelle and her two younger brothers, telling Isabelle to bring her stuff or she'll hurt her and her brothers. But when Toby - an old WW1 veteran tells Betty to back off she decides that he's an even better target. Toby doesn't realize how much Betty is setting him up until she goes missing and everyone blames him. So Isabelle helps him as best she can. But things get a little out of hand. This book is sad BUT it is very good and heartfelt! I would suggest this book for ages 12 and up.
So far this book has me hooked! It's amazingly written, filled with details of the main character's life. The book takes place during World War Two, which is what attracted me to it in the first place (wartime novels are always my favorite).
This was definitely a book that I could NOT put down. It continued to shock me. Every time I thought that Betty's bullying toward Annabelle couldn't get any worse, I would realize how wrong I was. I had such mixed emotions about Betty. I wanted her to face the consequences for the horrible things that she did, but once she faced them I quickly ate my words. It made me think twice about wishing revenge on others despite how awful they may be. Annabelle taught me a lot about what it means to stand up for yourself and how to be brave without hurting others in the process. Through all of the intense bullying by Betty, Annabelle grew and became an even stronger person than she was in the beginning. You really should read this book. It will send you on an emotional roller coaster and will stick with you long after you finish reading.
