Akata Witch

Akata Witch

By Nnedi Okorafor

When I picked up this book I had no idea how absolutely incredible it would be. Within the first few pages I was already hooked! I reread this book a dozen times, it never seems to get old! It's about a girl named Sunny, and her incredible journey in Nigeria. As well as how she took something she wasn't proud of (her albinism) and figured out it was the most incredible thing about her. This book took me through a magical, mystical journey of modern day magic. you guys got to read this book. let me give you the intro about this book! Twelve-year-old Sunny lives in Nigeria, but she was born American. Her features are African, but she's albino. She's a terrific athlete, but can't go out into the sun to play soccer. There seems to be no place where she fits in. And then she discovers something amazing—she is a "free agent" with latent magical power. Soon she's part of a quartet of magic students, studying the visible and invisible, learning to change reality. But will it be enough to help them when they are asked to catch a career criminal who knows magic too? bye for now.

By Rachele Alpine, Alison Cherry, Dee Romito, Gail Nall, Stephanie Faris, Ronni Arno

Wahoo

Best Night Ever is a book about some middle schoolers at a school dance....with a few twists. Each chapter focuses on a different character and how they make it into an epic night. Carmen can't come to the dance, but goes solo and finds a way to make it a great night. Genevieve is nervous because she has to sing for a popular band that night, and Tess, in the same band, is competing with Mariah, a girl whose best friend Ryan has decided to reveal his crush on her that night, with dramatic results. Shy Ellie has a person to dance with until she falls into a mean prank. Her stepsister Ashlyn has to babysit that night but has to make it there.....and Jade is out for revenge. Awesome story!

Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile

Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile

By Marcia Wells

Edmund Lonnrot is a normal 11 year old kid. Well, except for his photographic memory and his amazing drawing abilities. One day his father tells him that he was losing hours at work, making them unable to afford Edmund's school. That all changes when the police come to Edmund with unusual request. Work for them and they would pay for Edmund's school next year. You see the police have been unable to solve a crime because the suspects keep changing the way they look. Eddie's job? Go to the art museum and draw anyone suspicious. If they're able to catch the thieves the NYPD will pay for Eddie's education next year. I liked this book because it was so fast paced. I didn't like the way the adults acted in this book and the twists were kind of predictable. But, I think fans of mysteries and Theodore Boone will absolutely love Eddie Red: Mystery on Museum Mile!

Comics Squad #2: Lunch!

Comics Squad #2: Lunch!

By Jennifer L. Holm, Matthew Holm, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Peanuts, Cece Bell

This was my favorite of the series. The cutest story was Crazy Little Thing Called Lunch, by Cece Bell. It's about a girl named Ellie who sees her crush, Franklin as a giant baloney sandwich. The illustrations in that comic were adorable! This is a good travel comic!
