Panda-monium (FunJungle)

Panda-monium (FunJungle)

By Stuart Gibbs

This is the third book in the FunJungle series by Stuart Gibbs. In this book, Teddy is told not to investigate a crime, but of course, he does anyway. This time, FunJungle's veterinarian and their new panda were kidnapped. Supposedly, from a moving truck that was bringing the panda to FunJungle. Since the panda was being rented from China and it wasn't actually their property, they had to get the FBI involved. Large Marge turns around and decides to be nice to Teddy, because she wants to show up her sister Molly who is in charge of the FBI investigation. Like in every other Stuart Gibbs book, the main character, who is a kid, turns out to be smarter than every other adult in the story whose job it actually is to solve the case. I think this plot gets pretty old when it is repeated over and over, just in different scenarios. Overall, it was not my favorite book, but still a fun read.

Middle School Bites: Out for Blood

Middle School Bites: Out for Blood

By Banks, Steven

I expected this to be a kid friendly, off-kilter, but fairly predictable school daze comedy with a Vam-Wolf-Zom angle. Fair enough. I did not, however, expect the witty, deadpan, and clever bits, set pieces, and throwaway lines that really set this book, (the third in the series), apart from more pedestrian stuff. Our hero, Tom, is understandably befuddled by his triple-threat predicament. Rather than melting down, though, he handles his situation, and all of the complications that arise from it, with remarkable sang froid. As a consequence, the book is funny, upbeat, occasionally a bit edgy, and very smart. Tom keeps up a running commentary on all of the action, and his perceptive off the cuff observations, (on anything and everything), elevate the whole project. You could drop the entire plot and fashion this into a decent stand up comedy routine. All of this is aided immeasurably by a funny, manic wingman pal, a handful of smart and no nonsense girl friends, a misunderstood bully, a deadpan/mean/nice big sister, and about a dozen various adults who actually get some funny and wise lines of their own. So, the plot may be silly, but the execution is top notch. A fun find.

Stink and the Freaky Frog Freakout

Stink and the Freaky Frog Freakout

By Megan McDonald

Stink is really embarrassed. Even though he is really good at most things he tries, he is still in the Polliwog swimming class for little kids because he can't put his face underwater. All of the sudden, Stink starts seeing frogs everywhere. After a BLUE frog licks his arm he starts acting like a frog himself. He starts jumping around the house like a frog and sticking his tongue out to eat things. He starts to memorize frog calls and goes to a frog festival to learn more about them. The one good thing about thinking he is a frog is that he is finally able to put his head under water and gets to move on to the big kid swim class. I liked this book because it was fun learning facts about frogs and how they act. I just don't want to turn into a frog!!!

Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy! (My Weird School)

By Dan Gutman

I love this book I wanted to read more and more every moment! I think the theme is don't let anyone dull your sparkle. I think that because Ms. Roopy (the teacher) is always being herself and that is how everyone likes her. I know that she is dressing up like others , but that is her way of being her self. Now if you like to be exited about reading you should really really try this book!

Big Nate: In the Zone

By Lincoln Peirce

Hi I am Aqua-Dog and Big Nate is personally one of my favorite seiries in the book world. Nate Wright has a older sister Ellen and a fat old dad. Nate loves writing comics and gets in detention by Mrs. Godfrey, his social studies teacher. Nate loves to play but also gets in trouble too much. Well, a sixth grader who is four and half feet tall isn’t your everyday classmate. His friend teddy is a friend like nate but more mature and less funny. Francis, Nate’s other friend is a nerd he always gets good grades. Nate also has crushes. Jenny Nate’s girlfriend dosent like him and something goes wrong every single time nate sees Jenny. One time in another book Nate offered to give a popsicle to Jenny at the beach and then a frisbee from another person went flying over his head and accidentally slipped into her bathing suit and nate got punched by Jenny. See you again soon, as always Aqua-Dog Fourth grade.
