Well, I read half way through it but I guess it just got a bit boring. But it was very adventurous although I stopped reading it. It was about a girl called Hetty Feather, who wanted to be named Silver Bacteria and Emerald Star.

Okay. Let me get this straight. Most people won't believe me, but I have read this whole book, all 1000+ pages. It is so dry. If you dunked it in a bathtub filled with water, it would still be dry. If you dumped it in the Pacific Ocean, it would STILL be dry! It took two months to read (a normal 500 page would take me an estimated three weeks) and the epilogue had like, two parts! It's an achievement to finish reading the whole book, and definitely another to enjoy it (which I did not). If you really feel like reading this, go for it, but personally, I would not recommend it. I could rant on and on about War and Peace and its dryness, but I don't want to have you all staring at your devices for six hours or more just because you are reading this review, so, I'll put it into a "short" summary: It takes place in Russia in the 1800s and Russia is fighting in a war. The women get SUPER emotional about how their husbands are going away to war. A lot of people die. It's not super graphic, but it's not just "He was fighting. He died" either. I really disliked this book. Mic drop.

This is my most favorite book in the world it is so good. I would give it five stars. GO READ IT!!!!!

This book is about a girl named Dorrie. She is Jewish. Her teacher at the end of the semester she hosts sweet semester. Dorrie is very excited. This year the winner are going to be in the newspaper. Dorrie really wants to win. Her family in Europe was suffering from after a war and her aunt is getting married. Her aunt has to move away. The person who is still alive from the war is coming to american to spend the holidays with Dorrie and her family. The guest helps Dorrie in sweet semester and guess what? We I am NOT going to tell you unless you read the book!

this book is great because a brother and sister have to search for their grandmother's will and their competing against their family members and other people.

I read this book for my book club. Short and sweet ...but good.

Agreed! This was a awesome book. I got into the series and I loved it and couldn't wait to read the rest of the series and I read it and this was my favorite. Mostly because it is in a different point of view than the rest. Overall, five star book.

The beauty of Stay Where You Are and Then Leave is that it shows life before World War I, during it, and after it, all from the eyes of a child. Alfie Summerfield is five years old when his father, Georgie, proudly volunteers to join the British army and fight in World War I. Four years later, Alfie and his mother are almost penniless, and can hardly go to sleep every night, terrified of seeing Georgie's military number on 'the list' in the morning paper. When Alfie realizes that his father hasn't been sending letters anymore, his mother tells him he's on a secret mission...but he soon learns the truth. His father is in a hospital nearby with shell shock-- and Alfie will stop at nothing to bring him back home...What amazes me most in SWYA&TL, is how exquisitely John Boyne weaved the theme of love into his novel. I also admire how extraordinarily Boyne was able to write from a nine year-old's perspective: I really felt like I was in a nine-year-old's mind while reading this. One thing I did realize though, was that there were too many coincidences (Alfie finding about about his father’s condition, Marian being there to lead him to the hospital…) not making it realistic enough. I also felt that it dragged on in the beginning-- so I guess you just have to have the right taste for this book: it isn't one of my favorites. In contrast to the language of this read, the themes, symbolism, and foreshadowing are admirably advanced, so this is fit for anyone 11 and older.
