Visually stunning. The illustrations are so beautiful and eye catching it can be easy to get off track of such an important message. Based on a tribe's opposition to a pipeline being constructed near their water source, it is a reminder that indigenous violations and environmental concerns are still being violated today. There is a compelling message here among the inspirational writing style. A complement to any library's diversified collection to include native voices.
We Are Water Protectors
By Carole Lindstrom
Water is the first medicine.
It affects and connects us all . . .
When a black snake threatens to destroy the Earth
And poison her people’s water, one young water protector
Takes a stand to defend Earth’s most sacred resource.
Inspired by the many Indigenous-led movements across North America, this bold and lyrical picture book issues an urgent rallying cry to safeguarding the Earth’s water from harm and corruption.
