Hey guys! I am half way through the book, so don't spoil it for me! Do any of you feel like Dr. Hellion didn't even listen to why Piper was flying out side of the window? Conrad is so irritating and mean! Did the book ever say how old Conrad is? If not how old do you guys think he is? I can't what to find out what happens! Hope you guys are having a great day!

You just can't keep a good girl down . . . unless you use the proper methods.
Piper McCloud can fly. Just like that. Easy as pie.
Sure, she hasn't mastered reverse propulsion and her turns are kind of sloppy, but she's real good at loop-the-loops.
Problem is, the good folk of Lowland County are afraid of Piper. And her ma's at her wit's end. So it seems only fitting that she leave her parents' farm to attend a top-secret, maximum-security school for kids with exceptional abilities.
School is great at first with a bunch of new friends whose skills range from super-strength to super-genius. (Plus all the homemade apple pie she can eat!) But Piper is special, even among the special. And there are consequences.
Consequences too dire to talk about. Too crazy to consider. And too dangerous to ignore.
At turns exhilarating and terrifying, Victoria Forester's debut novel has been praised by Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight saga, as "the oddest/sweetest mix of Little House on the Prairie and X-Men...Prepare to have your heart warmed." The Girl Who Could Fly is an unforgettable story of defiance and courage about an irrepressible heroine who can, who will, who must . . . fly.
This title has Common Core connections.
Praise for Victoria Forester and The Girl Who Could Fly:
"It's the oddest/sweetest mix of Little House on the Prairie and X-Men. I was smiling the whole time (except for the part where I cried). I gave it to my mom, and I'm reading it to my kids―it's absolutely multigenerational. Prepare to have your heart warmed." Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight saga
"In this terrific debut novel, readers meet Piper McCloud, the late-in-life daughter of farmers...The story soars, just like Piper, with enough loop-de-loops to keep kids uncertain about what will come next....Best of all are the book's strong, lightly wrapped messages about friendship and authenticity and the difference between doing well and doing good."--Booklist, Starred Review
"Forester's disparate settings (down-home farm and futuristic ice-bunker institute) are unified by the rock-solid point of view and unpretentious diction… any child who has felt different will take strength from Piper's fight to be herself against the tide of family, church, and society."--The Horn Book Review
The Girl Who Could Fly is a 2009 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

In chapter #11 Piper is having a hard time at school. After she stands up to Conrad, he starts pushing her around even more than before. At the end of the school day, Piper has a special time to talk with Dr. Hellion about her day at school. What I like about this chapter is that Piper is the only student who gets to have a special talk with Dr. Hellion.
In chapter#9/10 Piper stands up to Conrad. After Conrad throws the basket up onto the ceiling, its up to Piper to get it. Once Professor Mumbly finds out that Piper has broken a rule she gets in trouble. What I like about this chapter is that Piper stood up to Conrad.
In chapter#8 Piper meets nurse Tolle. She finds out how good the food is in the cafeteria. Then later she realizes that she is being tricked by the other people that are around because she is new. What I like about this chapter is that they accepted her in the end.
In chapter#7 Piper is in a new class and everything about it is different from her old school. She has new classmates and a new friend. What I like about this chapter is that Piper makes a new friend.
In chapter#7 Piper goes to class. And meets new classmates and makes a new friend. What is sad and annoying about this chapter is, Piper has a girl in her class that loves her flower Princess Madrigal. It dies.
In chapter#5 Piper goes to class. And meets new classmates and makes a new friend. What is sad and annoying in this chapter is, Piper has a girl in her class that loves her flower but then it dies.
In chapter#6 Piper is introduced to the school and is also introduced to new experiences and things. What I like about this chapter is the cricket had feelings for Piper.
In chapter#5 Piper is taken away from her parents. She is sent to a place where people are just like her. I think in this chapter Piper is sad and misses her parents as do they to Piper.
It was a great book! It was about Piper, a girl who could fly,and it has a lot of imaginitive parts, and it really does seem as if she can fly. Fun, and appealing to fantasy fans.
