Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after Girl Scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly.

It was such a great book I don't know how I was so lucky to get it☺
one of the best books I have ever read
Wow what a great book!!!
My friends were talking about Raina Telgemeier's books and were shocked to hear that I hadn't read any of them! My friend brought "Smile" and told me to read it. I thought that I wouldn't like it since it was a graphic novel, but it was my turn to be shocked! I really loved this book because it was very easy to relate to. I loved that it was a true story about the author, Raina, and that she didn't leave the embarrassing parts out of the book. Throughout the course of this novel, Raina travels through serious dental drama, friends who don't respect her, and school (as always.) She learns that life is better when you smile and stand up for yourself. I am looking forward to reading Telgemeier's other books to see if they are just as good. It is an easy read (I read it twice in one sitting!) but still a fantastic novel to read again and again. I would recommend this to all middle schoolers.
you should read smile if you like comics or real life stories
