The Newbery Honor Award Winner and New York Times bestseller Roller Girl is a heartwarming graphic novel about friendship and surviving junior high through the power of roller derby—perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier's Smile
For most of her twelve years, Astrid has done everything with her best friend Nicole. But after Astrid falls in love with roller derby and signs up for derby camp, Nicole decides to go to dance camp instead. And so begins the most difficult summer of Astrid's life as she struggles to keep up with the older girls at camp, hang on to the friend she feels slipping away, and cautiously embark on a new friendship. As the end of summer nears and her first roller derby bout (and junior high!) draws closer, Astrid realizes that maybe she is strong enough to handle the bout, a lost friendship, and middle school… in short, strong enough to be a roller girl.

In this graphic novel debut that earned a Newbery Honor and five starred reviews, real-life derby girl Victoria Jamieson has created an inspiring coming-of-age story about friendship, perseverence, and girl power!

This is really a good book I would agree to read this.

I would definitely recommend this book because I read this book over 5 time since I was in 3rd grade and I now I'm going to 5th. I would rate this book a 5 star out of 5 stars. I think you guys should buy and read this book to.

If you are looking for I slightly funny graphic novel dealing with the troubles of a middle school this is the book for you. Astrid is a 12 year old girl who has always done everything with her best friend Nicole. But one day her mom takes her along with Nicole to a Roller Derby meet. Astrid absolutly loves it while on the other hand Nicole just thinks it's a game where people just push each other around on skates. Astrid decides later she would like to be apart of the Roller Derby camp taking place this summer and would like Nicole to join as well but Nicloe had all ready had plans to be taking part in dance camp and wants nothing to do with Roller Derby. This puts a rift in their friendship as does Nicoles new friend Rachel who also is taking part in dance camp. Astrid accepts Nicole will not be joining her but is still hurt and sad especially when she arrives at camp not even able to keep herself up on skates and all the other girls seem to be older and pros at the subject. As the summer goes on Astrid learns the importance of friendship, family, and never giving up no matter what gets in your why. I higly suggest this book to anyone who loves graphic novels and is looking for a book about friendsip, Roller Derby, and the struggles of middle school.

I love your reviews, katness122!

That's an amazing review! Keep up the good work!

Even if you really don't like roller skating you have to read this book! It's about 3 girls named Astrid, Nicole, and Rachel. Rachel is very mean. Astrid signs up for roller derby. Nicole and Rachel do ballet camp. Then find out the trouble and adventure in Roller girl bt Victoria Jamieson.

i would recommend this book because it is about a girl who keeps trying every time she mess up.

Astrid, a girl who's whole life has been spent in the company of Nicole, watches a roller derby and becomes enhanced, and then signs up for derby camp, once in her life without Nicole. There she meets Zoey, a headstrong young girl with bright hair and an attitude just as bright. Astrid learns about the mini bout, and fiercely wants to be a jammer in it, even if it means using free time to train. Sadly, Zoey is picked instead. The day of the bout, Astrid figures out her derby name; Asteroid! She pulls through during the derby, even if she twists her ankle in the process. The twists and turns she experiences on the track and in real life are true, and she is an amazing person. Five out of five stars, really wonderful.

Meet Astrid, a 12-year-old with roller derby dreams. A few weeks ago her former friend Nicole ditched her for ballet camp and a bossy girl called Rachel. All is lost, until she discovers roller derby camp, a place with hair dyers, tatooed girls, and lots of rough sport. Astrid is the odd girl out-- scrawny, small, and not so skillful. Then she meets Zoey, a loud, proud girl with bright pink bangs. She helps Astrid dye her hair, find a derby name, and star in her first bout. Astrid learns about friendship, life, and the challenges of growing up. This book was touching, unexpected and very good.5 stars!
