Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse is one of the most heartwarming, phenomenal books I have ever read. The book is rich in sensory details and figurative language, so I felt as if I was actually in the story. Billie Jo, the protagonist, describes living in the Dust Bowl with such vivid detail. When she describes how she feels without her mother, it makes me emotional. She is faced with many conflicts, but in the end, she learns that hard times aren't always about despair and a loss of money, hard times are about losing hope. That is a very crucial lesson in life, so readers can connect to it. This is an incredible book, and I would recommend it to anyone. Out of the Dust is definitely a must-read book.
