In this mischievous and utterly original debut, Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimm-inspired tales. As readers follow the siblings through a forest brimming with menacing foes, they learn the true story behind (and beyond) the bread crumbs, edible houses, and outwitted witches.

Fairy tales have never been more irreverent or subversive as Hansel and Gretel learn to take charge of their destinies and become the clever architects of their own happily ever after.

this book is kind of scary but it is about Hansel and Gretel who past through difficult times together. This book is like in life that most kids want to read.A tale dark and Grimm is one of the stories that most kids don`t want to stop reading it.

This book is not like anything I have read before! Instead of happily ever after endings, gory, sad parts make it super interesting! In this book, it suggests Hansel and Gretel don't only almost get eaten by a canabolist, but have much more dangerous things ahead! Please read this amazing book!!!!!!!

This is an AMAZING book!! When Hansel and Gretel leave their home, looking for better parents, they don't realize that they are starting a long, adventurous journey. They embark on their journey, and when they come back home, failing their quest, their mother, the queen tells them that there is a notorious dragon terrorizing the village. Soon t hey realize that the dragon is their father, and they have to slay it. What will they do???!!!

This was an action-packed book filled with all the famous 'Grimm' stories. Hansel and Gretel run away from their parents, because they (SPOILER) cut off their heads. So, they run off, and run into all of these different types of fairy tales! They face their own hardships, and grief, go to terrible places, and they of course, have to fight a dragon. In the end, the family is reunited, and they live happily ever after with Hansel and Gretel being king and queen.

This book is very violent and gruesome. But, very exciting and mysterious. I think it should be a Newberry Honor winner. I especially liked Gretel.

This was a great book about these twins who go on a cool and freaky adventure. on there adventure they meet scary and friendly people. It is a really great book!!!!!!

Very good book so far! A little confusing though.... I keep asking myself: Why? WHY??? Still, a good and determined author wrote this, congrats Adam Gidwitz! If you like "horror" books, read this!

This book was amazing! Adam Gidwitz did an amazing job capturing my attention to this book and plot line. The book is a retelling of Hansel and Gretel, but more of the real, Grimm brother's way. Also including the famous baker/ witch who tries to eat them, there are more fascinating parts to this book. The book is about Hansel and Gretel, who runs away from their parents, the king and queen of Grimm, because the twins think that their parents don't love them anymore. They run away, having awesome, yet bloody adventures, in including the witch. Also, they run away again (after the witch) to a man and wife who accidentely turned his seven sons to birds, resulting in Gretel cutting off her finger. Hansel also gets "killed," separating the twins. Then, Gretel falls in love with a man who's an evil, soul ripping warlock. She defeats him, obviously. Hansel turns out that he's alive ad goes to hell, to be in eternal punishment, but escapes the Devil himself. All after that, the twins coincidentally meet, and they go off back to their parents. When they arrive back home, they defeat a dragon, but to do that, they had to kill the king, their dad. Gretel saves her dad afterwards, by reattaching the king's chopped of head to his own body... And that's pretty much the whole story.... The book deserves a 5 star because of the gruesome details and because Adam Gidwitz puts his own side comments to the book, which in my opinion was genius!

I love this book. I love how it puts a spin on modern and baby fairy tales! Even thought its gory and if it was a movie would be more nightmare making than a movie rated R and made me puke (I'm serious I really did puke...) it was way better than that boring old Hansel and Gretel

You find yourself in the perspectives of a modern Hansel and Gretal. Sneaky quotes and book references keep you on your toes. All in all, this is not your average fairy tale. Stomach-turning plot twists keep you reading and reading. Incredibly gory and adventurous.
