Sixteen-year-old Demetri Scarborough has found that the world he lives in is black and white. Everyone in Demetri’s family is gone, and their unexplained absence revolves around a menacing rich family that has taken over the small city of Alcenia. These wealthy figures, the Trevelyans, have stripped Demetri and his people from their freedoms. With laws forcing the poor to work for the rich, Demetri and the Prodaquests live in a trapped society where power means everything.
Hoping to find a way to escape the wrath of the wealthy, Demetri and his good friend Josh begin searching for a way to leave the confined world they live in. Rumors have been swirling around the town that the Trevelyans are after something with great power; something that was stolen by a peasant. Demetri and Josh are determined to find what the Trevelyans want in exchange for their freedom. The more they find out about the stolen item, the closer Demetri gets to finding out the truth about his family. The puzzling history of Demetri’s family holds the key to every unlocked truth.
With the help of his mother’s last words, Demetri is able to piece together clues to find what ultimately connects his family’s disappearance to the evil Trevelyans. One tiny miscalculation changes the entire course of Demetri’s journey. When Demetri finally discovers his family’s secrets, the truth is beyond any wild dream he could have imagined, but is the truth a dream or a horrifying nightmare?
From the point of view of Demetri, Phoenix Blood paints a lucid picture of the trials and tribulations of its character’s deep connection to humanity. With an underlying story of love, this gripping tale entwines a range of vibrant characters. The meaning of life and death might just be the biggest mystery of all.
