Great fantasy novel about a teenage girl living in a world where women are frowned upon and all people associated with magic are executed. This book dwelves down into topics like g discrimination, genocide, and real world problems portrayed by a heartwrenching book with a decent plot twist.
A Tale of Magic...
By Chris Colfer
Fourteen-year-old Brystal Evergreen has always known she was destined for great things--that is, if she can survive the oppressive Southern Kingdom. Her only escape are books, but since it's illegal for women to read in her country, she has to find creative ways of acquiring them. Working as a maid at her local library gives her the perfect excuse to be near them and allows her to sneak a few titles home when no one is looking. But one day Brystal uncovers a secret section of the library and finds a book about magic that changes her life forever.
Magic is despised and outlawed throughout the world--Brystal is well aware of the severe consequences the book may bring--but her curiosity gets the best of her. By reading some of the text aloud, strange phenomena begin to occur and Brystal discovers she is capable of magic! And the more she practices it, the harder it becomes to hide.
After being caught and convicted, Brystal is saved by a mysterious woman named Madame Weatherberry. The woman takes Brystal to her Academy of Magic and teaches her to become a fairy. While Brystal studies magic and befriends the other students, Madame Weatherberry is suddenly called away on suspicious matters. When she doesn't return, Brystal and her friends work together to find and save their instructor. Along the way, the students discover Madame Weatherberry's true intentions for the academy are not what they seem, and they come face to face with a sinister plot that puts the fate of the world, and the fate of magic itself, in grave danger...

so good!1!!
This book is is the perfect amount of magic adventure and action. This book takes place in a realm with magic and mystery. A group of kids with magic abilities are taken to a training academy. While they're there the encounter many villains and adventures as they are just kids. Its the perfect book for kids grades 5-6 and I would recommend it for people who like to read.
Again so great
I love this book. It’s unlike any other book I’ve ever read. It sucked me into the story when I first got it, so much that I read it in two days! And that book is like 440 something pages. No matter how many times I read it it never ceases to amaze me. I’ve read it over a dozen times, so when I found out there was a second book,(A Tale of Witchcraft…) I was so happy I read that in a few days too! Trust me, if you read this book it will change your life. It sure changed mine 😉
Such a interesting take on unlikely friendships, girl power, magic, and betrayal. This book took me a little while to read but you wont regret it.
14-year-old Brystal Evergreen's favorite activity is reading. The problem is, in the Southern Kingdom, girls are trained to be wives when they grow up. This means that instead of studying subjects like math or science, girls are taught how to serve the right amount of tea or how to curtsy One day after school while walking past the library(which she is not allowed to enter) Brystal sees a help wanted sign for a maid. It's the perfect excuse for going into the library and reading all the books! Brystal quickly applies for the job. Soon, while cleaning the library, Brstal finds a secret passageway that leads to dozens of books. Why would someone need to hide books? She discovers that the books are banned, and they are all about topics like how the justices banished the trolls because they wanted their land. All the authors were executed, except for one. The book is called The Truth About Magic, and obviously, it is about magic. Brystal discovers that she is actually a fairy! In a matter of days, Brystal is sent to the Bootstrap Correctional Facility for Young Women. The facility "cures" fairies by making them do chores like digging holes in the ground and making shoes. One day, a strange fairy named Madame Weatherberry visits the facility. To her astonishment, Madame Weatherberry chooses Brystall for a school or fairies. Brystal learns how to use her powers. But in the end, how will they show the public that fairies are good? I liked this book because it had a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. This book is great for people who like fantasy.

Brystal Evergreen doesn't know her true self. Reading is outlawed for women, but Brystal reads anyway. So when Brystal finds out that she can do magic, Brystal is sent to a work camp with girls like her. Being saved by Madame Weatherberry, Brystal learns that she and some other students are special. Needing the world to see that, they form a special academy where they learn how to use their magic wisely and truly find themselves. But the evil Snow Queen is harming the world and Brystal's beloved Madame Weatherberry has a close secret with the evil queen. And it may harm the Madame more than anyone knows... Almost serving as a backstory to the Fairy Council, A Tale of Magic is truly fantastic and, well, magical! Happy reading!
