Since 1967, the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has wowed Americans with innovative — and sometimes wacky — gadgets. This year’s event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 7 to 10, 2025, was no exception. Here are some standout products that caught our attention.
PaintCam Eve Security Camera
PaintCam Eve brings a unique twist to home security. This robotic security camera not only alerts homeowners to unwelcome visitors, but also deters them by firing paintballs. The device can be programmed to recognize family members, friends, and pets. This ensures it does not mistake them for intruders.
LG's Transparent Television
South Korea’s LG unveiled a radical new television with a futuristic twist. It switches from opaque for regular viewing to completely see-through at the press of a button. When turned off, the 77-inch (195 cm) TV looks like a window. As you might expect, this innovation does not come cheap. LG plans to sell the device for a hefty $60,000!
Lenovo's Rollable Laptop
At first glance, Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 looks like any other 14-inch (35 cm) laptop. However, wave your hand at the camera or press a button, and the screen will magically extend to an impressive 16.7 inches (42 cm). The image resolution will also improve significantly. Once you are done, the lower portion of the screen retracts seamlessly into the laptop's chassis with the same gesture. Lenovo expects to bring the laptop to stores by June 2025. It will retail for around $3,500.
Kirin's Electric Salt Spoon
Those looking to reduce their sodium intake, may want to consider the Electric Salt Spoon. The $125 gadget is the brainchild of Japanese company Kirin. It uses electric currents to mimic a salty taste without the health risks of added sodium. Users can even adjust the level of saltiness using a menu button on the detachable handle, which contains the electronics.
