Soft drink manufacturer Coca Cola sure likes to keep their fans happy. In 2012, they delighted the students at the University of Singapore with a soda machine that dispensed drinks in exchange for hugs. Now, they are doing the same for the people of Bangladesh with this gaming arcade that shuns cash, in favor of empty coke bottles.
Entitled 'Where Will Happiness Strike Next?', the advertising campaign is the brainchild of New York-based Grey Advertising to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling especially, in third-world countries. The campaign that was launched in the heavily populated city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on April 25th, 2014, entailed installing a gaming arcade in different parts of the city over six days.
In order to play the Coke-inspired video game, gamers had to insert empty plastic bottles into the slots in lieu of money or tokens. Not surprisingly, by the end of the campaign, thousands of bottles had been submitted for recycling. Whether the people of Dhaka will continue to recycle now that the machine has moved to a different country, is anybody's guess, but it was sure fun while it lasted! In case you are wondering, the 'Happiness Arcade' is making its way around the world and may even show up in your neighborhood some day!
