Today marks the 237th year since the historic day when our nation obtained independence from Britain, giving birth to the country that we all know as The United States of America. Interestingly enough, it also happens to be the 15th birthday of First Daughter Malia Obama.
While nobody knows how Malia, who along with the first family has just returned from a seven-day whirlwind tour of Africa, is going to celebrate it privately, tonight she will do what she has been doing ever since coming to the White House - Join the family to host the annual July 4th party for the administration officials, military heroes and their families and, other guests.
Started by Thomas Jefferson in 1801, the age-old tradition is a way to honor all the people that put their lives on the line for our country. The celebrations include a scrumptious barbeque and entertainment, followed by some spectacular fireworks. Besides the Marine Band, this year, the guests will also be treated to a concert by Grammy Award winning band 'Fun.'. We have a feeling somewhere in between, there will be a special cake dedicated to the first daughter.
Given that the Obama family loves to celebrate birthdays, Malia probably has a special celebration planned too. While nobody knows what that is, we are sure it will be something extraordinary - especially given the fact that she has had to postpone her celebrations for the last five years!
Happy July 4th to all of you and a very happy birthday to our gorgeous First Daughter Malia!
